Journey

the travel of a day

So my youngest boy and I packed up a BMW and set out one morn early to find adventure and sweet conversation with friends.

We made a video posted at the end of the blog. It is worth the time to view and listen. You know, my friends, how quickly life flies. And you know, my friends, how fleeting our time is here on this side of eternity. And you know, my friends how quickly these little ones grow that we hold for a breath.

train tracks: imagination wild with wonder

I think about that poem from Robert Frost. He understood nature and the nature of man. How we took the path less traveled by, and true as true can be, it made all the difference.

grounding: flesh touch earth and water to soar the sky
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
walking the road not taken… in a motel

We drove through six states and saw sights sublime. I wanted to spend a week at each vision. But the highway called and Siri directed us to our destinations. After a fashion at times.

trampoline: jumps, flips, and simple joy

We stopped at three places to visit friends. Each was unique and each was soul filling.

willow: large weeping shade tree

We enjoyed conversations with a couple who knew me as a child. And shared food with those born elsewhere learning English. Mung and my little one spent time on the piano speaking in chords and notes. A language that crossed all barriers and lines.

river: water, trees, sand… and mosquitos

We enjoyed time with a family who are dear friends. Their oldest and my youngest are fast friends. A bond not seen in boys so young. Mornings of excellent coffee with mommas alone and children quiet. Afternoons of adventure with mommas relishing and children wild. Can’t wait to go back.

One of my closest friends moved to a different state. So, we snuck over and had excellent food. Surpassed only by the closeness of heart we share. The kids filled the time with play and we left too soon.

graffiti: peace, love, joy

The Journey was needed, enjoyable, restful, sublime. The Journey was living, landscape, loving. Here is the promised video. It is worth the four minutes it takes to watch it. My oldest son wrote the music I used as the background. I did not record any video while driving. Only that one bit and you’ll know it when you see it.

It is important to take moments and cherish them. Even if there is no instagram post, no facebook status, no social media moment. Imagine what we left out of our video! Those moments are ours.
